Refinery contractors and suppliers
Piping, electrical and instrumentation work around the refinery complex.
Jamnagar hosts one of the world’s largest refinery complexes and a famous brass-parts cluster. Learn the plant and workshop skills both use.
01Jamnagar
The refinery complex outside the city draws a large contractor and supplier ecosystem, while thousands of small workshops make brass fittings and parts for the country’s pump, electrical and plumbing industries.
Refinery contractors need piping, electrical and documentation skills, and workshop owners need drawings and costing.

At around seven hours a week, alongside college or work. Faster or slower is fine; finish each project before moving on.
04Your learning path
You will learn to
Project to build: Isometrics, spools and MTO. Generate pipe isometrics, break them into spools and produce pipe and tube MTO reports.
Tools covered: Report and MTO generation, AVEVA PDMS Design module, Isometric generation, Clash and data consistency checks, Spooler.
Foundation level: Mechanical and chemical engineers, diploma holders and piping draughtsmen who want to start 3D plant piping design.
You will learn to
Project to build: Relay control panel. Wire a small panel with push buttons, relays and a selector switch for different control modes.
Tools covered: Siemens WinCC, Siemens TIA Portal (S7-1200), Omron CX-Programmer (CP1E), Omron CX-Supervisor and CX-Simulator, Wonderware InTouch.
Foundation level: Learners who want a 64-hour course built on ABB PLC programming with Control Builder Plus (CODESYS) and Wonderware InTouch SCADA.
You will learn to
Project to build: Engraved name plate. Create text geometry and engrave it on a plate with the right tool and depth.
Tools covered: Engrave and swept cuts, 2D geometry and profile creation, Waterline, scallop, hybrid and raster finishing, Toolpath simulation and verification, Mastercam Mill.
Foundation level: Mechanical diploma and degree students, CNC operators and machinists who want to program CNC milling with Mastercam.
You will learn to
Project to build: Universal joint assembly. Model the yokes, cross and pins, then assemble them with mechanical mates and check for interference.
Tools covered: Sketcher with relations and smart dimensions, CAM toolpaths and machining simulation, Sheet metal design, Drawings, annotations and BOM, PhotoView 360 rendering.
Foundation level: Beginners and students who want a compact 40-hour course covering sketching, part modelling, assemblies, drawings and sheet metal.
05Careers
A CNC / CAM programmer converts a 3D model into toolpaths and G-code that a CNC lathe, milling machine or machining centre can follow.
Day to day: create 2D and 3D milling and turning toolpaths in Mastercam or NX CAM; select tools, holders, speeds, feeds and depths of cut.
Skills employers ask for: Fixturing and work-holding methods; Cutting tools, materials and machining parameters; Reading engineering drawings, tolerances and GD&T.
Where careers start: CNC Operator / Trainee.
A mechanical design engineer turns a product idea into accurate 3D models, assemblies and 2D manufacturing drawings.
Day to day: maintain design revisions and release files through the company's PDM/PLM system; prepare detailed 2D drawings with dimensions, tolerances, GD&T callouts and bill of materials.
Skills employers ask for: Clear communication with shop-floor and quality teams; 3D part and assembly modelling in SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo or NX; GD&T and tolerance stack-up basics.
Where careers start: Trainee / CAD Draughtsman.
A piping designer plans how pipes, valves, pumps and equipment are arranged inside refineries, chemical plants, power stations, water treatment plants and pharma units.
Day to day: route pipelines and place valves and supports in the 3D PDMS model; prepare material take-offs and bill of materials.
Skills employers ask for: Piping codes and standards awareness (ASME B31); AutoCAD 2D piping drafting; Reading P&IDs and plot plans.
Where careers start: Piping Draughtsman.
