01What is SolidWorks

What is SolidWorks? In plain words.

SolidWorks is a 3D CAD program from Dassault Systèmes. It uses feature-based, parametric modelling: you draw a sketch, add dimensions and relations, and turn it into solid features such as extrudes, revolves, sweeps and lofts. Parts are then put together in assemblies with mates, and 2D drawings with views, dimensions and a bill of materials update automatically when the model changes.

SolidWorks is one of the most widely used CAD tools in Indian manufacturing, especially in machine building, special-purpose machines, sheet metal fabrication, fixtures, pumps and consumer products. Small and mid-sized firms like it because it is quick to learn and covers design, drawings, sheet metal and weldments in one package. Job posts for design engineers and draughtsmen often list SolidWorks by name.

Ranipet's SIPCOT industrial estate and the Chennai–Bengaluru corridor through Vellore have many fabrication, engineering and component units that work from 3D models and drawings. Students from colleges in Katpadi and Vellore can also look at design roles in Chennai, Sriperumbudur, Hosur and Bengaluru.

What you will be able to do

  • Navigate the SolidWorks interface, Feature Manager design tree and Command Manager
  • Draw fully defined sketches using entities, relations and smart dimensions
  • Model parts with extrude, revolve, sweep, loft, fillet, shell, rib, hole wizard and patterns
  • Assemble components using standard, advanced and mechanical mates and check interference
  • Design sheet metal parts with base flanges, edge flanges, hems, bends and flat patterns
  • Build weldment frames with structural members, gussets, end caps and cut lists
  • Create production drawings with section and detail views, GD&T annotations and BOM tables
  • Simulate mechanisms in SolidWorks Motion and plan CNC machining with CAM tools

02Why learn it

Why learn SolidWorks now?

Six reasons students and professionals in Vellore district pick this skill.

Widely asked for in job posts

Machine builders, fabricators and product companies commonly list SolidWorks for design and detailing roles.

Quick to become productive

The Feature Manager design tree, smart dimensions and property managers make the workflow easy to follow.

Sheet metal and weldments built in

Design flanges, bends and flat patterns, or build structural frames with cut lists, without extra software.

Drawings that stay in sync

Views, dimensions, hole tables and BOMs update when the 3D model changes, which saves rework.

A path from design to motion and machining

Separate levels add SolidWorks Motion for mechanism study and CAM for CNC toolpath planning.

Useful for projects and higher study

Final-year projects, design contests and M.E. design courses often use SolidWorks models.

Ask on WhatsApp
What is SolidWorks?

SolidWorks is 3D CAD software from Dassault Systèmes. It is used to design parts and assemblies, sheet metal and weldments, and to create production drawings. It is common in machine building, fabrication and product design.

Who can join the SolidWorks course?

Mechanical, Automobile, Mechatronics and Production students, diploma and ITI holders, draughtsmen and working engineers can join. Basic computer knowledge is enough. Engineering drawing knowledge helps.

How long is each SolidWorks level?

Essential in Solidworks, Essential in Solidworks Motion and Certificate in CAM using SolidWorks are 40 hours each. Essential in Solidworks With AI is 60 hours, Proficient in Solidworks is 80 hours and Proficient in Solidworks with AI is 100 hours.

Which SolidWorks level should I choose?

Beginners who want a short course can take Essential. If you want a full job-ready course, choose Proficient, which adds surfaces, weldments, rendering and DFM. Motion and CAM are add-ons for those who already know SolidWorks modelling. The AI versions add design-thinking and concept sessions plus an introduction to AI-assisted modelling.

Can I learn SolidWorks online or in hybrid mode?

Yes. Classroom, online and hybrid modes are available, depending on trainer availability. The counsellor at your chosen centre will confirm the mode and batch timing.

Is there a free demo class?

You can ask for a demo session when you enquire. The counsellor at your chosen centre will arrange a suitable time on WhatsApp or phone.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. After completing the course and its assessment, you receive a course completion certificate from the authorised training partner programme.

Do you provide placement support?

We provide placement support such as resume help, mock interviews and sharing job leads. We do not promise or guarantee a job. Your portfolio of models and drawings will help in interviews.

What is the fee for the SolidWorks course?

Fees differ by level and mode. The counsellor at your chosen centre will share the current fee, any offers and EMI options on WhatsApp.

Do I need my own laptop?

No. Classroom students practise on the centre's systems. For online classes you need a computer that can run SolidWorks; the counsellor can guide you on the setup.

What jobs and salary can I expect after learning SolidWorks?

You can apply for design engineer, CAD draughtsman, sheet metal designer or fixture designer roles. Freshers in India typically start around ₹2.2–4 LPA, with higher pay in metros and with experience. Pay varies by company, city and skills.

Which centre can I join, and what are the timings?

All SolidWorks levels run at our Katpadi, Vellore and Ranipet centres. Centres are open Monday to Saturday 9:30 am–6:30 pm and Sunday 9:00 am–2:00 pm.
