01What is Consumer Goods Product Design

What is Consumer Goods Product Design? In plain words.

Consumer goods product design is the engineering work behind everyday items such as kitchen appliances, toys, bottles, personal-care devices, remote controls and small gadgets. This page brings together four short certificate courses, each 40 hours long: additive manufacturing (3D printing), motion analysis, plastics design and simulation. Most of the practical work is done in SolidWorks and its add-ons, together with slicing software and an FDM 3D printer, so you learn the tools a product engineer actually uses.

Companies that make consumer products need engineers who can do more than model a shape. They want someone who can print a quick prototype, check that a hinge or gear train moves correctly, design a plastic part that fills well in the mould, and prove through analysis that it will not crack. Each certificate here builds one of those skills, so you can take the one your job needs or stack all four for a complete product development skill set.

Vellore district sits on the Chennai–Bengaluru industrial corridor, with appliance, electronics and plastics manufacturers in Sriperumbudur, Hosur and the SIPCOT estate at Ranipet. Product prototyping, plastics and simulation skills help students from local engineering colleges aim for these jobs.

What you will be able to do

  • Prepare a 3D model for printing, export an optimised STL file and slice it with suitable settings
  • Set up, calibrate and operate an FDM 3D printer and fix common print problems
  • Finish printed parts with suitable post-processing techniques
  • Build motion studies in SolidWorks Motion for mechanisms, gear trains and multi-body systems
  • Apply plastic part design guidelines and choose a suitable material
  • Find a good gate location and study plastic flow results before tooling
  • Develop core and cavity for a simple mould in SolidWorks
  • Set up an FEA study, read the results and suggest design improvements

02Why learn it

Why learn Consumer Goods Product Design now?

Six reasons students and professionals in Vellore district pick this skill.

Prototype in hours, not weeks

3D printing lets you hold and test a design the same day, which is how most product teams now work.

Most consumer parts are plastic

Knowing wall thickness, draft, gate location and core–cavity design makes your models ready for injection moulding.

Check that mechanisms work

Motion studies show whether lids, levers, gears and springs move as intended before any tooling is made.

Validate before you manufacture

FEA simulation helps you predict failure, find the root cause and improve a design on screen.

Short, focused certificates

Each course is 40 hours, so working people and students can add one skill at a time.

Builds on SolidWorks skills

If you already know SolidWorks modelling, these courses turn that into real product engineering work.

03Who can learn

Who can join this course?

Ask on WhatsApp
What is this Consumer Goods Product Design course?

It is a set of four 40-hour certificates: Additive Manufacturing, Motion Analysis, Plastics Design and Simulation for consumer goods. Each one teaches a practical product development skill using SolidWorks add-ons, slicing software and an FDM 3D printer.

Who is eligible to join?

Mechanical, production and product design students, diploma holders and working engineers can join. Makers and start-up founders can also take the 3D printing course. Basic computer use is enough to start.

Do I need to know SolidWorks first?

For Motion Analysis, Plastics Design and Simulation, prior SolidWorks modelling is strongly recommended because these courses use its add-ons. If you are new, take a SolidWorks course first; our counsellor can suggest the right order.

How long is each certificate?

Each of the four certificates is 40 hours. The number of weeks depends on the batch timing you choose, weekday or weekend.

Which certificate should I choose?

Choose Additive Manufacturing for prototyping, Plastics Design for mould and appliance work, Motion Analysis for mechanisms, and Simulation for strength and failure checks. Many learners take two or more to build a stronger profile.

Can I learn online or in hybrid mode?

Classroom, online and hybrid modes are offered, depending on trainer availability. Hands-on 3D printer practice is best done at the centre.

Can I attend a free demo class?

Yes, you can ask for a demo session at your chosen centre. Message the centre on WhatsApp or call to book a slot.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. On completing the course and its assessment, you receive a certificate from CADD Centre, our training partner, which you can add to your resume.

Do you offer placement support?

We offer placement support such as resume help, mock interviews and sharing job leads. We do not guarantee a job; results depend on your skills and effort.

What are the fees?

Fees depend on the certificate and any current offers. The counsellor at your chosen centre will share the current fee, offers and EMI options on WhatsApp.

Do I need my own laptop?

No, you can practise on centre systems during class. A laptop that can run SolidWorks helps with extra practice at home.

Which centre can I join and what are the timings?

All courses run at our Katpadi, Vellore and Ranipet centres. Centres are open Monday to Saturday 9:30 am–6:30 pm and Sunday 9:00 am–2:00 pm.
