What the PLC & SCADA internship builds on
A PLC (programmable logic controller) is a rugged industrial computer that reads sensors and switches and turns motors, valves and lamps on or off according to a program. SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) software sits above the PLCs and shows the process on screen, with live values, alarms, trends and recipes.
Working through PLC & SCADA, you will learn to explain types of industrial automation and where PLCs and SCADA fit, describe PLC architecture, isolation barriers and types of PLC and write ladder programs using latching, interlocking, memory, timers, counters, jumps and subroutines.
You will work with Siemens STEP 7 SIMATIC Manager (S7-300), Siemens TIA Portal (S7-1200) and Siemens WinCC; the Course on PLC & SCADA (MITSUBISHI) programme includes modules such as Introduction to Industrial Automation, Programmable Logic Controller Basics and PLC Programming and Ladder Logic.
Roles to aim for include PLC Programmer – writes and tests PLC programs for machines and process lines and Automation Engineer – designs, programs and commissions PLC and SCADA systems. Basic computer use and a basic idea of electrical circuits (switches, relays, contactors) are enough. An electrical, electronics or instrumentation background makes the course easier.

What is PLC and SCADA?
A PLC is an industrial controller that runs machines and processes from a program, usually written in ladder logic. SCADA is software that shows the process on screen and lets operators monitor values, handle alarms, view trends and send commands.
Who can join this course?
EEE, ECE, EIE, mechatronics and mechanical students and graduates, diploma holders, ITI electricians and maintenance engineers can join. A basic understanding of electrical circuits helps.
