What the Data Science internship builds on
Data science is the practice of using statistics, programming and machine learning to find patterns in data and make predictions. A data scientist collects and cleans data, explores it with charts, tests ideas with statistics and builds models such as regression, decision trees or clustering.
Working through Data Science, you will learn to describe data with measures of central tendency, dispersion, skewness and kurtosis, apply probability distributions, z-scores, confidence intervals and significance tests and program in R or Python to clean, explore and visualise data.
You will work with R and RStudio, Python and ggplot for visualisation; the Course on Data Science using R programme includes modules such as Introduction to Data Science and R, Descriptive Statistics and Probability and Distributions.
Roles to aim for include Data Science Trainee – cleans data, runs analyses and supports model building and Junior Data Scientist – builds and tests predictive models for business problems. Basic computer skills and school-level maths are needed. Comfort with numbers matters more than coding; R and Python are taught from the basics.
