What is Data Science? In plain words.
Data science is the practice of using statistics, programming and machine learning to find patterns in data and make predictions. A data scientist collects and cleans data, explores it with charts, tests ideas with statistics and builds models such as regression, decision trees or clustering. The work is usually done in R or Python, with data stored in SQL databases or cloud platforms like AWS.
Banks use data science to spot fraud, retailers to forecast demand, hospitals to study patient outcomes and factories to predict machine failures. Analytics firms, IT service companies and product companies hire people who can go from a business question to a tested model and a clear explanation. Employers look for sound statistics, hands-on coding in R or Python, SQL skills and case studies that show you have worked with messy, real data.

R or Python – which is better?
Both are widely used. Python is more common in IT and product companies, while R is popular in research, statistics and healthcare analytics. Many data scientists eventually learn both.
