01What is Robotics

What is Robotics? In plain words.

Robotics is the design, building and programming of machines that sense their surroundings and act on their own. A robot combines mechanical parts such as wheels, joints and grippers, electronics such as sensors, motor drivers and a controller, and code that decides what to do. The 40-hour courses on this page use Arduino, an open-source microcontroller platform, to teach these basics through many small projects.

Industrial robots weld, paint, pick and place parts on car and electronics assembly lines, and service robots are used in warehouses, hospitals and homes. Employers in automation, automotive, electronics and R&D look for people who can wire sensors, drive motors, write control code and debug a system that does not behave as expected. Hands-on robotics projects are also a strong addition to any engineering student's final-year work and resume.

Ranipet's SIPCOT estate and the wider Chennai–Bengaluru corridor, including Sriperumbudur and Hosur, have many automotive and electronics plants that use automation. Robotics skills help students from Vellore, Katpadi and Ranipet target these jobs and build strong college projects.
