Cars are becoming screens on wheels
Digital clusters and large touchscreens are now common even in mid-range cars and electric two-wheelers.
Design and prototype in-car screens – dashboards, infotainment and voice flows – with ProtoPie, Qt Design Studio and AI tools.
01What is Automotive HMI & UX
Automotive HMI (human–machine interface) is everything a driver sees, touches and hears inside a vehicle: the digital instrument cluster, infotainment touchscreen, climate controls, voice assistant and warning messages. Automotive UX is the practice of designing these so they are clear at a glance and safe to use while driving. Designers use prototyping tools such as ProtoPie and Qt Design Studio to build screens that behave like the real product before any code is written for the car.
Carmakers, two-wheeler and EV makers and their technology suppliers now treat the cockpit screen as a key selling point. Design and engineering centres in Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune build HMI for Indian and global vehicles, and they look for people who can turn a concept into an interactive prototype. ProtoPie is widely used for quick, realistic interaction prototypes, while Qt Design Studio produces QML-based interfaces that can move toward production on embedded systems.
02Why learn it
Six reasons students and professionals in Vellore district pick this skill.
Digital clusters and large touchscreens are now common even in mid-range cars and electric two-wheelers.
Fewer designers specialise in automotive HMI, so relevant tool skills help you stand out.
ProtoPie lets you build realistic interactions with triggers, variables and conditions instead of full programming.
Qt Design Studio works with QML, the same technology used in many embedded and automotive UIs.
Learn how generative AI can speed up concept creation, voice flows and driver journey mapping.
Chennai and Sriperumbudur host major vehicle makers and suppliers, within reach of Vellore and Ranipet.
03Who can learn
Move from app and web design into in-vehicle interfaces.
Add digital cockpit design skills to your vehicle knowledge.
Learn the design side of embedded and infotainment systems.
Apply your layout and motion skills to dashboards and infotainment screens.
Use Qt Design Studio and QML to work closely with designers.
Pick up prototyping tools to test HMI ideas faster.
04Levels & syllabus

Designers and students who want a short 24-hour course to build interactive automotive HMI prototypes without heavy coding.
These are the core topics this programme always covers. Ask the counsellor on WhatsApp for the detailed, session-wise syllabus.
UX and HMI designers who want a 32-hour course on using generative AI to speed up in-car experience design and testing.
These are the core topics this programme always covers. Ask the counsellor on WhatsApp for the detailed, session-wise syllabus.
Designers and developers who want a 48-hour course to build QML-based, animated HMI interfaces that can move toward real devices.
These are the core topics this programme always covers. Ask the counsellor on WhatsApp for the detailed, session-wise syllabus.
05Choose your level
Start with ProtoPie (24 hours) if you want to prototype HMI interactions quickly as a designer. Choose Qt Design Studio (48 hours) if you want QML-based interfaces closer to what runs on real devices. Take AI Tools for Automotive UX (32 hours) to add generative AI to your concept, voice and testing work; it pairs well with either tool course.
| Programme | Level | Hours | Best for |
