01About the course

What you will learn in Consumer Goods Product Design

Consumer goods product design is the engineering work behind everyday items such as kitchen appliances, toys, bottles, personal-care devices, remote controls and small gadgets. This page brings together four short certificate courses, each 40 hours long: additive manufacturing (3D printing), motion analysis, plastics design and simulation. Most of the practical work is done in SolidWorks and its add-ons, together with slicing software and an FDM 3D printer, so you learn the tools a product engineer actually uses.

This page is for learners outside Vellore, Katpadi and Ranipet – NRIs, professionals in the Gulf and other countries, and students elsewhere in India who want Consumer Goods Product Design taught live by a trainer.

Basic computer use is needed. Prior SolidWorks part and assembly modelling is strongly recommended for the motion, plastics and simulation courses; basic engineering mechanics will help in the simulation course.

At a glance

  • 4 programme levels: 40 h
  • Live online, hybrid or offline in India
  • Projects assessed before certification
  • Certificate from the CADD Centre network
  • Batches fixed around your time zone

02Outcomes

Skills you will be able to show

  • Prepare a 3D model for printing, export an optimised STL file and slice it with suitable settings
  • Set up, calibrate and operate an FDM 3D printer and fix common print problems
  • Finish printed parts with suitable post-processing techniques
  • Build motion studies in SolidWorks Motion for mechanisms, gear trains and multi-body systems
  • Apply plastic part design guidelines and choose a suitable material
  • Find a good gate location and study plastic flow results before tooling
