01New Zealand

New Zealand construction, agri-tech and dairy engineering

Construction in Auckland and Christchurch, the agri-tech and dairy-processing equipment makers around the Waikato, and a compact engineering-consultancy sector create a small but skills-hungry market. Employers often prefer candidates who already know the standard design and planning tools.

New Zealand is six and a half to seven and a half hours ahead of India, so an Indian early-morning class is a mid-afternoon or evening session locally, and weekend batches in Indian time often fall on a New Zealand evening.

Where the jobs are

Auckland and Christchurch construction

Drafting, BIM and scheduling roles.

Dairy and food-processing equipment makers

Mechanical design and automation roles.

Engineering consultancies

Structural analysis and drawing production.

03Joining from New Zealand

How learning works

New Zealand learners study live online; New Zealand is about six and a half to seven and a half hours ahead of India.

Where we teach: classroom batches run at our Katpadi, Vellore and Ranipet centres in Tamil Nadu; learners elsewhere join live online or hybrid batches.

You will learn to

  • Design sheet metal parts with base flanges, edge flanges, hems, bends and flat patterns
  • Draw fully defined sketches using entities, relations and smart dimensions
  • Assemble components using standard, advanced and mechanical mates and check interference

Project to build: Weldment supporting frame. Build a machine frame from structural members with gussets, end caps and a cut list.

Tools covered: Part modelling and multibody tools, Sketcher with relations and smart dimensions, Weldments and cut lists, Drawings, annotations and BOM, Sheet metal design.

Professional level: Students and designers who want complete 80-hour SolidWorks training, from sketching to surfaces, sheet metal, weldments, drawings, rendering and DFM.

PLC & SCADA 44–64 h

You will learn to

  • Use comparison, move, math and logic instructions and function block diagrams
  • Configure hardware, then download and upload programs to a PLC or simulator
  • Explain types of industrial automation and where PLCs and SCADA fit

Project to build: Relay control panel. Wire a small panel with push buttons, relays and a selector switch for different control modes.

Tools covered: Siemens WinCC, Omron CX-Supervisor and CX-Simulator, ODBC, DDE and Excel data export, ABB Control Builder Plus (CODESYS), Siemens STEP 7 SIMATIC Manager (S7-300).

Foundation level: Learners who want a 64-hour course built on ABB PLC programming with Control Builder Plus (CODESYS) and Wonderware InTouch SCADA.

06Careers

Roles that fit work around New Zealand

Structural Design Engineer

A structural design engineer makes sure buildings, bridges, towers and industrial structures stand safely under their own weight, people, wind and earthquakes.

Day to day: prepare structural drawings and reinforcement details; analyse results and design beams, columns, slabs and footings.

Skills employers ask for: Structural analysis and mechanics fundamentals; Engineering judgement and result checking; Reinforcement detailing and bar bending schedules.

Where careers start: Graduate / Trainee Engineer.

Mechanical Design Engineer

A mechanical design engineer turns a product idea into accurate 3D models, assemblies and 2D manufacturing drawings.

Day to day: check assemblies for interference, clearance and motion before prototypes are made; prepare detailed 2D drawings with dimensions, tolerances, GD&T callouts and bill of materials.

Skills employers ask for: Design for manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFA); Sheet metal and surface modelling; Basic strength-of-materials calculations.

Where careers start: Trainee / CAD Draughtsman.

HVAC Design Engineer

An HVAC design engineer plans heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems for offices, hospitals, malls, hotels, factories and homes.

Day to day: prepare drawings, equipment schedules and bill of quantities; model HVAC systems in Revit MEP and coordinate with other services.

Skills employers ask for: Revit MEP modelling; Duct sizing and air distribution design; AutoCAD HVAC drafting.

09FAQ

New Zealand – FAQ

Still have a question? Message us on WhatsApp.

Ask on WhatsApp
Is there a structural course for New Zealand offices?

STAAD Pro and ETABS cover analysis and design; local code requirements remain your responsibility.

What time are classes for NZ learners?

Indian-morning and weekend batches land in the New Zealand afternoon or evening.

Which course should I start with in New Zealand?

Construction in Auckland and Christchurch, the agri-tech and dairy-processing equipment makers around the Waikato, and a compact engineering-consultancy sector create a small but skills-hungry market. A sensible order is Revit (Architecture, Structure & MEP) first, then STAAD.Pro once you are comfortable.

Should I choose Essential or Proficient?

Take Essential if you want to learn modelling, loading and basic concrete and steel design. Take Proficient if you are aiming for a structural design job, as it adds seismic, dynamic, P-Delta and buckling analysis, the RC Designer, STAAD.Beava and foundation design.

Can I attend a demo before joining?

Yes, ask your chosen centre on WhatsApp or phone about a demo or counselling session. They will explain the syllabus for each brand.

Can I learn online from New Zealand?

You can. Every course is available as a live online class, and learners in New Zealand who want lab time can add an occasional visit to one of the centres in Tamil Nadu.
