Automotive makers and suppliers
Part design, DMU and tolerance work.
Japan’s car makers, electronics firms and robotics companies hire engineers who know current design and controls tools. India is three and a half hours behind Tokyo.
01Japan
Automotive makers around Toyota City and Nagoya, electronics and machine-tool firms across Kanto and Kansai, and robotics companies throughout the country support a very tool-intensive engineering market. Many Indian engineers living in Japan work for foreign-owned software and engineering firms in Tokyo and Yokohama.
Japan is three and a half hours ahead of India, so an Indian morning class is a late-morning to early-afternoon session locally and weekends work best.
Engineers moving to Japan often start preparing before they arrive: CATIA with GD&T for automotive design, or PCB design and robotics for electronics, plus a short Python course so they can follow factory data tools from the first week.

05Careers
A mechanical design engineer turns a product idea into accurate 3D models, assemblies and 2D manufacturing drawings.
Day to day: maintain design revisions and release files through the company's PDM/PLM system; select materials, fasteners and standard parts to balance strength and cost.
Skills employers ask for: 3D part and assembly modelling in SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo or NX; Clear communication with shop-floor and quality teams; 2D drafting and drawing standards (ISO/ASME).
Where careers start: Trainee / CAD Draughtsman.
A PCB design engineer converts a circuit idea into a printed circuit board that a factory can build.
Day to day: simulate analog and power circuits in PSpice; place components and route multi-layer boards in PCB Editor.
Skills employers ask for: Footprint and library management; Soldering and board bring-up basics; Design rules, stack-up and grounding basics.
Where careers start: PCB Layout Trainee.
An automotive design engineer designs the parts that make up a vehicle, such as body-in-white panels, plastic interior trims, brackets, seating structures or chassis components.
Day to day: join design reviews with suppliers, CAE and manufacturing teams; model plastic trims, sheet metal panels and brackets in CATIA.
Skills employers ask for: Digital mock-up (DMU) and packaging studies; Plastic part design rules; GD&T and automotive drawing standards.
Where careers start: Design Trainee.
