01Mongolia

Mongolia mining and Ulaanbaatar construction

Large copper and coal mines and their contractors drive the economy, and Ulaanbaatar’s fast-growing housing and infrastructure sector keeps construction firms busy.

Mongolia is two and a half hours ahead of India, so Indian morning classes suit evening study.

A mine electrician in Mongolia could begin with electrical CAD and PLC, while a Ulaanbaatar site engineer might prefer STAAD Pro followed by Civil 3D for roads and grading.

Where the jobs are

Mining operators and contractors

Electrical, survey drawing and maintenance planning.

Ulaanbaatar construction firms

BIM, structural analysis and scheduling.

Logistics and trading firms

Accounts and reporting.

03Joining from Mongolia

How learning works

Learners in Mongolia study live online; Mongolia is about two and a half hours ahead of India.

Where we teach: classroom batches run at our Katpadi, Vellore and Ranipet centres in Tamil Nadu; learners elsewhere join live online or hybrid batches.

Tools covered: Catalog Browser and component libraries, Electrical and drawing audits, Wire numbering and signal arrows, Connector and point-to-point wiring tools, Ladder and PLC module tools.

Foundation level: Beginners who need AutoCAD drafting basics first and then full AutoCAD Electrical schematic, PLC and panel work in 64 hours.

PLC & SCADA 44–64 h

You will learn to

  • Write ladder programs using latching, interlocking, memory, timers, counters, jumps and subroutines
  • Build SCADA screens with tags, animations, scripts, alarms, trends and recipes
  • Configure hardware, then download and upload programs to a PLC or simulator

Project to build: Relay control panel. Wire a small panel with push buttons, relays and a selector switch for different control modes.

Tools covered: Omron CX-Supervisor and CX-Simulator, Siemens TIA Portal (S7-1200), ODBC, DDE and Excel data export, Mitsubishi GX Works2 (FX series), Siemens STEP 7 SIMATIC Manager (S7-300).

Foundation level: Learners who want 64 hours covering two popular PLC platforms – Siemens (STEP 7, TIA Portal, WinCC) and Omron (CX-Programmer, CX-Supervisor).

AutoCAD Civil 3D 40–80 h

You will learn to

  • Run slope, elevation, watershed and catchment analysis on a ground model
  • Create parcels and right-of-way layouts and label them with tables
  • Set up Civil 3D templates, object styles and label styles for a project

Project to build: Land development layout. Build a ground surface from survey points, grade the site and divide it into parcels with right of way, labels and area tables.

Tools covered: Volume surfaces and earthwork reports, LiDAR point clouds and DEM surfaces, Toolspace and object/label styles, Survey database and field book import, Gravity pipe networks.

Professional level: Learners who want the full 80-hour path, adding profile design, assemblies, roundabouts, pipe networks and two complete projects.

STAAD.Pro 40–80 h

You will learn to

  • Edit models quickly with repeat, mirror, rotate, split and merge tools
  • Design RC beams and columns and steel members as per code parameters
  • Design isolated, combined, mat and pile cap foundations and prepare a design report

Project to build: Seismic check of a building. Calculate base shear, run a response spectrum analysis and compare storey forces and drifts.

Tools covered: Seismic load definition and response spectrum, Wind Load Generator, STAAD.Pro Connect Edition, Output Viewer and post-processing, Steel design module.

Foundation level: Civil students and beginners who want a solid 40-hour grounding in modelling, loading, analysis and basic design.

05Careers

Roles that fit work around Mongolia

Highway / Road Design Engineer

A highway or road design engineer plans the geometry of roads, from village link roads to national highways and expressways.

Day to day: create typical cross-sections, corridors and junction layouts; design horizontal and vertical alignments as per IRC codes.

Skills employers ask for: Earthwork and quantity calculation; Plan-and-profile drawing production; AutoCAD Civil 3D surfaces, alignments and corridors.

Where careers start: Trainee / CAD Engineer.

Structural Design Engineer

A structural design engineer makes sure buildings, bridges, towers and industrial structures stand safely under their own weight, people, wind and earthquakes.

Day to day: model buildings and structures in ETABS or STAAD.Pro; prepare structural drawings and reinforcement details.

Skills employers ask for: Structural analysis and mechanics fundamentals; Engineering judgement and result checking; STAAD.Pro modelling and design.

Where careers start: Graduate / Trainee Engineer.

Power System Engineer

A power system engineer studies how electricity flows through generators, transformers, cables, lines and loads, and makes sure the network is safe, reliable and efficient.

Day to day: coordinate protection relay settings; model systems and control behaviour in MATLAB.

Skills employers ask for: Power system fundamentals (per-unit, faults, load flow); Power quality and harmonics basics; Technical report writing.

Where careers start: Graduate Engineer.

08FAQ

Mongolia – FAQ

Still have a question? Message us on WhatsApp.

Ask on WhatsApp
Which course helps a mining contractor?

Electrical CAD with PLC and SCADA is the usual pairing.

Which course suits a Ulaanbaatar builder?

STAAD Pro with Revit-style BIM skills and Primavera covers analysis and planning.

Which course should I start with in Mongolia?

Large copper and coal mines and their contractors drive the economy, and Ulaanbaatar’s fast-growing housing and infrastructure sector keeps construction firms busy. A sensible order is Electrical CAD (AutoCAD Electrical) first, then PLC & SCADA once you are comfortable.

What is PLC and SCADA?

A PLC is an industrial controller that runs machines and processes from a program, usually written in ladder logic. SCADA is software that shows the process on screen and lets operators monitor values, handle alarms, view trends and send commands.

Should I choose Essential or Proficient?

Take Essential if you want to learn modelling, loading and basic concrete and steel design. Take Proficient if you are aiming for a structural design job, as it adds seismic, dynamic, P-Delta and buckling analysis, the RC Designer, STAAD.Beava and foundation design.

Can I learn online from Mongolia?

Yes, from home. Classes are live with a trainer, recorded practice files are shared after each session, and the certificate is the same whether you learn online or in a classroom.
