What the Excel for Data Engineering internship builds on
Microsoft Excel is the spreadsheet program in Microsoft 365 and Office. Most people know how to type data and add a column, but Advanced Excel is about the features that do real work: conditional and array formulas, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP and INDEX-MATCH, data validation lists, pivot tables and charts, Goal Seek, Scenario Manager and Solver, and macros that record repeated steps.
Working through Advanced Excel, you will learn to use absolute, relative and mixed references correctly in formulas, apply SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, nested IF, IFERROR and text and date functions and look up data with VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH and INDIRECT.
You will work with Microsoft Excel (Microsoft 365 / Office), Lookup functions: VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, INDIRECT and Pivot tables, pivot charts and slicers; the Certificate in Advanced Excel programme includes modules such as Excel Introduction and Customisation, Basic Functions and Referencing and Formatting and Protection.
Roles to aim for include MIS Executive – prepares daily and monthly reports for management and Data Entry / Back-Office Executive – maintains accurate records and summaries in Excel. You should be able to use a computer and open, type into and save an Excel file. The Certificate course starts with a refresher of basics, so you do not need to be an everyday Excel user to join.
