What the IoT in Civil Engineering internship builds on
This course covers that chain step by step with hardware practice. The Internet of Things (IoT) is about connecting everyday devices – sensors, lights, motors, meters – to the internet so they can send data and be controlled remotely.
Working through Internet of Things (IoT), you will learn to set up a Raspberry Pi as an IoT gateway and server with Python CGI, implement an MQTT broker and analyse IoT data with Python libraries and explain IoT architecture from sensor to cloud to app.
You will work with Raspberry Pi with VNC, PubNub and MQTT broker; the Proficient in IOT programme includes modules such as ESP8266 Wi-Fi Programming, Python for IoT and Raspberry Pi as IoT Gateway.
Roles to aim for include Test Engineer – Connected Devices – tests hardware and communication of IoT products and IoT Data Analyst – cleans and analyses sensor data to find trends and faults. A basic understanding of electronic circuits and microcontrollers, and of the internet, cloud and networking, is helpful. The course starts with a short electronics refresher.
