01What is Autodesk Inventor

What is Autodesk Inventor? In plain words.

Autodesk Inventor is 3D mechanical design software from Autodesk, the maker of AutoCAD. It uses parametric, feature-based modeling: you draw a 2D sketch, turn it into a 3D feature, then add holes, fillets, shells and patterns. Parts are put together into assemblies with constraints, sheet metal parts can be folded and flattened, and drawings with views, dimensions, balloons and parts lists are created straight from the model.

Inventor is popular with machine builders, special purpose machine (SPM) makers, fabrication shops, material handling and conveyor companies, and tooling firms. Because it comes from Autodesk and reads AutoCAD drawings easily, many small and mid-sized manufacturers move from 2D AutoCAD to Inventor for 3D work. Employers value designers who can take a concept to a checked assembly and a full drawing set quickly.

Ranipet's SIPCOT estate and the fabrication, machinery and component units across Vellore district regularly need designers who can model machines and sheet metal parts. Inventor skills also help students from Vellore and Katpadi apply for design jobs in Chennai, Sriperumbudur, Hosur and Bengaluru.

What you will be able to do

  • Set up Inventor projects, templates and application options
  • Create and constrain 2D sketches with lines, arcs, splines, slots and text
  • Build parts with extrudes, work features, placed features and patterns
  • Edit solids with direct edit, combine, split and thicken tools
  • Assemble components with constraints, flexible and adaptive parts
  • Check assemblies for interference and measure distances, angles and areas
  • Design sheet metal parts with flanges, hems, bends, punches and flat patterns
  • Create detailed drawings with views, dimensions, GD&T symbols, tables and balloons

02Why learn it

Why learn Autodesk Inventor now?

Six reasons students and professionals in Vellore district pick this skill.

Natural next step after AutoCAD

Inventor shares Autodesk's familiar style and works well with DWG files, so AutoCAD users adapt quickly.

Built for machine design

Part, assembly, sheet metal and drawing tools cover the daily work of machine and equipment designers.

Catch errors before fabrication

Interference checks and measure tools help you find clashes and wrong sizes on screen.

Sheet metal made practical

Flanges, hems, bends, punches and unfold/refold give you accurate flat patterns for cutting and bending.

Drawings with parts lists

Create base, section and detail views with dimensions, GD&T symbols, tables and balloons.

Wanted by SMEs

Many small and mid-sized manufacturing firms in India use Inventor for their products.

03Who can learn

Who can join this course?
