01What is Networking & Network Security

What is Networking & Network Security? In plain words.

Networking is the work of connecting computers, servers, phones and devices so they can share data safely and reliably. A network engineer plans IP addresses, configures switches and routers, sets up VLANs and routing protocols such as OSPF and EIGRP, and keeps services like DHCP, DNS and NAT running. Network security adds firewalls, VPNs, AAA and access control so that only the right people and traffic get through.

Every office, hospital, college, bank, factory and data centre depends on its network, so network engineers are needed across almost every sector. Employers usually ask for skills that match vendor certifications such as Cisco CCNA and CCNP Security: subnetting, switching, routing, WAN links, troubleshooting and firewall configuration. Security skills are now expected even in entry-level roles, which is why this page pairs routing and switching with a dedicated network security course.

Vellore district's colleges, hospitals and the industrial units in Ranipet's SIPCOT estate all run networks that need support, and Chennai and Bengaluru have many IT, telecom and data-centre employers. Networking and security skills let students from Vellore, Katpadi and Ranipet apply both locally and in the metros.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the OSI and TCP/IP models and plan IPv4 and IPv6 addressing with subnetting and VLSM
  • Configure VLANs, trunks, STP, PortFast, BPDU Guard and EtherChannel on switches
  • Set up static routing, RIP, OSPF, EIGRP and first-hop redundancy protocols
  • Configure WAN links, GRE tunnels, eBGP and basic QoS
  • Run infrastructure services such as DHCP, DNS, NTP, NAT, SNMP and Syslog
  • Secure devices with SSH, AAA using TACACS+ or RADIUS, and 802.1X
  • Configure Cisco ASA and zone-based firewalls, NAT and IPS policies
  • Build site-to-site IPsec and remote-access SSL VPNs and harden Layer 2 against attacks

Ask on WhatsApp
What is taught in the Networking & Network Security courses?

The routing and switching course covers networking fundamentals, subnetting, VLANs, STP, EtherChannel, OSPF, EIGRP, WAN, BGP, DHCP, DNS, NAT, ACLs and automation basics. The security course covers firewalls, VPNs, AAA, 802.1X, Layer 2 security and IPS.

Who can join?

CSE, IT and ECE engineering students, BCA and B.Sc graduates, diploma holders and IT support staff can join. Basic computer knowledge is enough for routing and switching. The security course needs basic networking knowledge first.

How long are the courses?

Course on Network Engineering – Routing and Switching is 56 hours. Course on Network Security is 40 hours, with a day-wise plan of about two hours per day.

Which course should I take first?

Take Routing and Switching first unless you already work with VLANs and routers. Network Security builds on those skills. Many learners take both, one after the other.

Do these courses help with CCNA?

The routing and switching topics closely match what the CCNA exam covers, and the security topics relate to CCNP Security areas. The exam itself is taken separately with Cisco; ask the counsellor for guidance on exam registration.

Can I study online?

Yes, classes run in Classroom, Online or Hybrid mode, depending on trainer availability. Labs can be done on simulators, and the counsellor will confirm the setup for your batch.

Is there a demo class?

Please ask the counsellor at your chosen centre on WhatsApp or phone about a demo or counselling session. They can walk you through the syllabus and lab work.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Livewire, our training partner, after completing each course and its assessment.

Do you provide placement support?

We provide placement support including resume help, mock interviews and job leads. We do not guarantee placement; your lab skills and interview performance matter most.

What is the fee?

The counsellor at your chosen centre will share the current fee, offers and EMI options on WhatsApp. Fees may differ if you take both courses together.

What salary can a network engineer expect?

Freshers in support or NOC roles typically earn around ₹2–3.6 LPA, and experienced engineers with security skills earn considerably more. Pay varies by company, city, skills and experience.

Which centres offer this course and what are the timings?

The courses run at all three centres: Katpadi, Vellore and Ranipet. Centres are open Monday to Saturday 9:30 am–6:30 pm and Sunday 9:00 am–2:00 pm. Laptops are not required, as lab systems are available at the centre.
