01What is Linux Administration & Internals

What is Linux Administration & Internals? In plain words.

Linux is a free, open-source operating system that runs most of the world's web servers, cloud platforms and supercomputers, as well as Android phones, routers, cars and many embedded devices. Distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) are standard in companies. This page brings together five Linux programmes: fundamentals and shell scripting, system administration, server administration, kernel internals and device driver development.

Employers ask for Linux in two main areas. In IT infrastructure, system and server administrators install, secure and maintain the Linux machines behind websites, databases and cloud services, and DevOps and cloud roles expect strong command-line and scripting skills. In embedded and semiconductor companies, engineers who understand the kernel, interrupts and drivers make new hardware work with Linux. These skills stay useful for years because the core ideas change slowly.

Linux admin and support roles in Chennai and Bengaluru IT parks are within easy reach of Vellore, Katpadi and Ranipet, and electronics firms along the Chennai–Bengaluru corridor and in Hosur need embedded Linux skills. Learning locally lets students of VIT and other nearby colleges build this base before they move for work.

What you will be able to do

  • Work confidently at the Linux command line and navigate the file system
  • Write shell scripts to automate routine tasks
  • Install RHEL and manage users, groups, permissions and ACLs
  • Configure networking, disk partitions and LVM storage
  • Manage packages, processes, services, logs and the boot process
  • Set up DNS, NFS, SMB, iSCSI, Apache with HTTPS and MariaDB on a Linux server
  • Explain how the kernel schedules processes, handles interrupts and manages memory
  • Build and debug a basic character, GPIO, I2C or SPI device driver

02Why learn it

Why learn Linux Administration & Internals now?

Six reasons students and professionals in Vellore district pick this skill.

Linux runs the servers

Most web, cloud and database servers run Linux, so admin and support teams need people who can manage it.

Base for cloud and DevOps

Cloud, container and DevOps work all assume you are comfortable at the Linux command line.

Automate with shell scripts

Shell scripting lets you turn repeated admin tasks into reliable, repeatable scripts.

RHEL-style admin skills

The system and server admin levels follow the Red Hat way of working used in many companies.

Path into embedded work

Kernel internals and driver levels open doors in embedded, automotive and semiconductor firms.

Short, stackable levels

Each level is 20–40 hours, so you can take one at a time and build up.

03Who can learn

Who can join this course?

BE/BTech CSE, IT and ECE students

Add practical Linux skills that campus and off-campus interviews often test.

BSc, BCA and MCA graduates

Prepare for system administrator and technical support roles.

IT support and helpdesk staff

Move from desktop support into server administration.

Aspiring cloud and DevOps engineers

Build the command-line and scripting base those roles require.

Embedded systems learners

Use the kernel and driver levels to work with Linux on real hardware.

Diploma holders in computer or electronics

Start a practical IT infrastructure career.

Working developers

Understand the operating system your code runs on.

Before you start: For the fundamentals and admin levels, basic computer use is enough. The server admin level assumes you already know Linux system administration. The kernel internals and device driver levels need good C programming and some knowledge of operating systems or microcontrollers.
