Industry is moving to BIM
Large building and infrastructure projects increasingly ask for BIM models and ISO 19650-based information delivery.
Learn how BIM projects are planned, modelled and coordinated – from ISO 19650 and execution plans to Revit models and clash-free drawings.
01What is BIM (Building Information Modelling)
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a way of designing, building and managing construction projects using shared, data-rich 3D models. Instead of separate drawings, architects, structural engineers and MEP engineers build intelligent models that carry quantities, materials and schedules. BIM is a process, supported by software such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks and Civil 3D, and by standards such as ISO 19650 that define how project information is named, shared and delivered.
BIM is now expected on large commercial, infrastructure, airport, metro and hospital projects, and many overseas clients require ISO 19650-based information management. Indian construction companies and BIM service firms that support clients in the Middle East, UK, USA and Australia hire modellers, coordinators and managers who understand both the software and the process. Employers value people who can build accurate models and also follow execution plans, naming rules and levels of detail.
02Why learn it
