Every building needs MEP
Commercial, residential, healthcare and industrial projects all need HVAC, fire protection and plumbing design.
Understand how buildings are cooled, protected from fire and supplied with water – the design basics behind every MEP drawing.
01What is MEP Design Concepts
MEP stands for Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing – the building services that make a structure usable. This course covers three of the most in-demand service areas: HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), fire protection with sprinkler systems, and plumbing. You learn the design ideas behind each system, how basic sizing is done and how the systems appear on building drawings.
Every hospital, mall, office, hotel, factory and apartment block needs these services designed and drawn before construction. MEP consultants, contractors and design offices need engineers who understand loads, pipe and duct sizing and the relevant codes, not just drafting. Knowing the concepts makes it much easier to work later in AutoCAD, Revit MEP or HVAC design software.
02Why learn it
Six reasons students and professionals in Vellore district pick this skill.
Commercial, residential, healthcare and industrial projects all need HVAC, fire protection and plumbing design.
Understanding loads and sizing makes you a designer, not only a draughtsman.
HVAC, fire sprinklers and plumbing together give you a broad base for MEP roles.
The same knowledge helps in design offices, contracting firms and site execution.
It adds a building-services specialisation to a core engineering degree.
Pair it with Revit or HVAC design software to model the systems you design.
03Who can learn
Specialise in HVAC and fire protection design for buildings.
Learn plumbing and services coordination alongside structure.
Understand the other services you will coordinate with on projects.
Move into MEP drafting and site execution roles.
Learn the design reasons behind the systems you install.
Add design understanding to your MEP drafting work.
