What the Power BI internship builds on
Power BI is Microsoft's business intelligence tool. You use Power BI Desktop to pull data from Excel, CSV files, databases and online sources, clean it with Power Query, link tables into a data model and write DAX measures.
Working through Power BI, you will learn to connect Power BI Desktop to Excel, CSV, folder and database sources, clean and reshape data with Power Query: split, merge, append, pivot and unpivot and build a data model with correct relationships, cardinality and filter flow.
You will work with Power BI Desktop, Power Query Editor and M Language; the Certificate in Power BI programme includes modules such as Getting Started & Power BI Desktop, Connecting & Shaping Data with Power BI Desktop and Table Relationships & Data Models.
Roles to aim for include Power BI Developer – builds data models, DAX measures and dashboards for business teams and Data Analyst – cleans data, finds trends and presents findings to managers. Comfort with a computer and basic Excel (entering data, simple formulas) is enough. No programming background is needed; DAX and M are taught from the basics.
